The Mt. Sterling Police Department is a 24/7 agency consisting of 24 full-time sworn officers and 3 non-sworn employees. We answer all calls for service in the city of Mt. Sterling. We are committed to drug interdiction and working in close cooperation with the Federal Drug Enforcement Administration, the Kentucky State Police, and surrounding agencies.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I obtain a collision report?

Collision reports are available to involved parties within 7–10 business days after the report is taken. Reports may be picked up at the Police Department or through our drive-thru lane, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m.

The fee is $2.00 per report and $10.00 for photographs. Cash or check only.

What is the non-emergency number for dispatch?

The non-emergency number is (859) 498-8720. Use this number for situations that are non-life-threatening—such as requesting to speak with an officer, filing a report not currently in progress, or other matters that do not require immediate emergency response. For life-threatening situations, always dial 911.

Where do I pay my parking ticket?

Parking tickets may be paid during business hours at City Hall, located at 33 N. Maysville Street, Mt. Sterling, KY.

Parking tickets may be paid in cash only.

What are your business hours?

The Mt. Sterling Police Department operates 24/7, 365 days a year. However, the administrative office is open Monday 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., Tuesday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., and is closed on holidays.

To file a report after hours, come to the front lobby of the Police Department and use the red phone on the wall, which connects directly to dispatch. We are located at 35 S. Bank Street, Mt Sterling, KY.

Do you provide fingerprinting services?

No. We do not offer fingerprinting services.

Do you perform vehicle inspections?

No. Vehicle inspections are handled by the Sheriff’s Department, located in the basement of the Montgomery County Courthouse located at 44 West Main Street, Mount Sterling, KY.

Are you currently hiring?

We are always accepting applications. Applications remain on file for one year. When a position becomes available, announcements are made and applications on file are reviewed. Applications may be obtained at the Mt. Sterling Police Department during regular business hours. Hiring requirements are listed on our Recruitment Page.

Do you participate in the drug take-back program?

Yes. While medications are no longer accepted at the Police Department, several collection events are held each year at local businesses. Events are announced via social media several weeks in advance.

How do I retrieve personal property from the Police Department?

Any property seized as evidence requires a court order for release. Found property will be returned to the owner upon proof of ownership. Found items are kept for a minimum of 60 days before being destroyed.
